#IAEA verifica que #Iran infringeix els límits d'enriquiment establerts a #JCPOA

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified that Iran is enriching its uranium past the 3.67% limit set by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on 8 July 2019, escriu David Kunz.

Iran also violated nuclear fuel stockpiling limits established by the JCPOA one day before and called for other JCPOA member states to oppose the sanctions imposed by the United States.

In October 2015, the JCPOA was agreed to be the EU, Iran, the United States and five other nations. In May 2018, the United States withdrew from the JCPOA and imposed sanctions on Iranian oil exports, crippling the country’s economy.

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has accused European participants of failing to counteract the effects of the US sanctions, despite the creation of a 'special funding vehicle' by the Europeans called the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX).

He consciously violated the JCPOA, saying he would order engineers to exceed the uranium enrichment levels if Europe failed to shield Iran from the US sanctions' effects.

Spokesperson Maja Kocijančič said that the EU is “deeply concerned,” about the Iranian violations, and encouraged Iran to “not take further measures the undermine the nuclear deal,” and “reverse all activities that are inconsistent with its commitments under the JCPOA.”

Iran’s enriched uranium is currently at a 4.5% level, but still behind weapons-grade levels of 90%.

Kocijančič said the EU is in contact with other JCPOA participants to discuss what action should be taken.
